At the Astana airport, at the request of Russia, a Ukrainian citizen, Lyubov Rozhanska, was detained, who had come to pick up her grandson and deliver him to his father in Odessa. The woman is currently in the pre-trial detention center of the capital of Kazakhstan, and a trial is expected within 3 days.

This is reported by DW .

Rozhanskaya flew to Astana from Istanbul to pick up her grandson, who was supposed to be brought there from Russia. The boy is the son of her daughter Alla Andreeva and was born in 2018.

In 2021, Andreeva and her son traveled to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation to live with her second husband, a Russian citizen, and remained there. In 2022, she renounced her Ukrainian citizenship and obtained Russian citizenship for herself and her son.

In 2025, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, at the request of the child’s father, determined the boy’s place of residence to be Odessa.

In the summer of 2026, the family of the boy’s mother’s new husband contacted Rozhanskaya and offered to hand over the child to her Ukrainian father and grandmother. At the same time, a court in the Russian Federation at that time ruled to take Rozhanskaya into custody in the child abduction case and prepare documents for her extradition.

Rozhanska’s lawyers, Oleksiy Pryanishnikov and Riza Nurbaeva, said that the request for the woman’s arrest was made through the CSTO. According to them, Rozhanska was unaware of the criminal case against her.

Rozhanskaya is currently in the Astana pre-trial detention center. The trial is scheduled to take place within 3 days, after which there is a possibility of her deportation to Russia.
