The European Union has committed to delivering 80% of its planned 2 million artillery shells to Ukraine, marking a significant step in bolstering the country’s defense capabilities.

This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, ahead of the meeting of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council.

Kallas reported that under the EU’s initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine, commitments have already been made for 80% of the planned volume.

“Of course, more needs to be done to reach the target of 2 million shells by the end of this year,” she noted.

Kallas added that Russia’s war against Ukraine is one of the main topics of the Council meeting, which will take place on Monday, June 23. She also stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia.

“Even though much of the world’s attention is now focused on events in Iran and the Middle East, people are dying every day in Kyiv because Russia continues its bombing campaign. We must keep the pressure on Russia. That’s why we’re pushing for the 18th package of sanctions. We must also continue providing military support to Ukraine,” the EU foreign policy chief emphasized.

It was previously reported that the EU is developing a plan to increase aid to Ukraine. Thus, the European Union is seeking to obtain additional billions of euros from frozen Russian assets.

As reported, the Finnish government will send ammunition to Ukraine using profits from frozen Russian assets.
