Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed 20 times due to Iran’s actions

Iran has sharply restricted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz – traffic intensity has fallen by more than 20 times compared to the pre-war period.

This is reported by Bloomberg.

Currently, an average of about six ships pass through the strait per day, while previously this figure reached 135.

Most of the tankers currently plying the route are linked to Iran or its allies, with an estimated 80% share, effectively giving Tehran control of a key energy corridor.

Iran is also preparing new rules for the passage of ships. The authorities plan to introduce transit fees and require detailed information about each ship. Shipowners are already forced to move only along agreed routes.

Such steps give Iran the opportunity to influence global energy markets and create additional pressure on oil exporters.

Despite discussions of naval escort and insurance mechanisms, the US has not yet found an effective response to these actions.

It was previously reported that Iranian forces attacked a Thai container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the cargo and smoke on board.

Recall that Iran allowed “friendly” countries that did not participate in the war in the Middle East to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
