Shmyhal named the reason for the partial blackout in Ukraine

On Saturday, January 31, a technological disruption occurred between the power systems of Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, causing a simultaneous power outage. This caused a cascading power outage.
This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, today at 10:42 a technological disruption occurred with the simultaneous shutdown of the 400 kV line between the power systems of Romania and Moldova and the 750 kV line between the western and central parts of Ukraine.
“Which caused a cascade outage in the Ukrainian power grid and the activation of automatic protections at substations. The units of nuclear power plants were unloaded. Currently, in Kyiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Kharkiv regions, dispatchers have applied special emergency outage schedules,” he said.
Ukrenergo energy workers are working to restore power supply. Power will be restored in the coming hours, he added.
It should be noted that on January 31, a system failure occurred in the Ukrainian power system, which left a significant part of Ukraine without power .
In particular, in Kyiv, train traffic and escalators were temporarily suspended due to a power outage in the metro .
Later, the Ministry of Energy commented on the situation and predicted that power would return to Ukrainian homes in two to three hours .
