Shooting in Kyiv involving security forces: Budanov made a statement

Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov said that the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office are already investigating the shooting in Kyiv. He stressed that the investigation must be thorough and impartial.
Budanov said this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
“The SBI and OGPU are already dealing with the situation, it is important to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation, but no one has the right to kidnap military personnel with impunity, open fire on the streets of our cities, or give and carry out criminal orders,” he said.
What is known about the shooting?
On the morning of September 2, videos appeared online showing the aftermath of a shooting in the capital’s Bereznyaki. According to preliminary data, the incident occurred at night near a house on Yuri Shumsky Street. Traffic on this street was blocked, and law enforcement officers continued to work at the scene.
Initially, there was no official information about the circumstances of the incident, victims, or detainees. At the same time, Telegram channels linked the incident to the activities of the SBU and the State Security Service.
On the same day, the SBU and the GUR reported that they had prevented a terrorist attack that the FSB of the Russian Federation was preparing against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement. The name of the man was not named by the special services. According to RBC-Ukraine sources, this is the deputy commander for combat work of the “Russian Volunteer Corps” Stepan Kaplunov.
The State Security Service later deleted the message about preventing a terrorist attack. Later, the SBU officially stated that it had conducted searches at one of the addresses as part of an investigation into the preparation of a terrorist attack.
According to the SBU, during the searches, its employees were attacked with weapons. The attackers also blocked the passage of law enforcement officers with cars. The “Alpha” special unit was involved to stop the resistance, after which the security forces used weapons.
There are injuries as a result of the shooting, the attackers have been detained. The SBU stated that they belong to one of the units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Weapons and documents were seized from the detainees.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has launched an investigation into the fact of a threat and attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. The investigation is ongoing.
