Shooting occurs during Trump’s dinner in the US: details

A shooting occurred at the Washington Hilton during the Correspondents’ Association dinner. US President Donald Trump was in attendance.

After the first shots were fired, Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump , Vice President J.D. Vance , Secretary of Defense Pete Gegset , and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr., were quickly evacuated. Participants hid under tables.

US Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi reported that all guards are safe. The shooter was subdued while attempting to break into the premises.

According to Trump, one Secret Service officer was wounded at close range, but was saved by his bulletproof vest. The president also noted that the dinner had been postponed for 30 days.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen of California. He is hospitalized for observation. According to police, he was armed with a shotgun, a pistol, and knives.

Washington, D.C., interim police chief Jeffrey Carroll said the suspect was a hotel guest and his room was sealed as part of the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the man has already been charged with using a firearm and assaulting federal officers. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 27.
