The head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, has provided new details about the murder of 4 police officers by a former military man in the Cherkasy region. According to him, the suspect opened fire on law enforcement officers at close range, including those who were already wounded.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Ivan Vyhivskyi noted that the police arrived at the suspect’s house to conduct investigative actions and were prepared for different scenarios. According to him, the law enforcement officers spoke with the man calmly and taking into account his status as a war veteran.

“At the scene, the police informed him about the start of investigative actions. The police were ready for any development of events, including gunfire,” said Ivan Vyhivskyi.

The Head of the National Police reported that the suspect barricaded himself in the house and refused to make contact. In this regard, his comrades were involved in the communication, but at that time the man quietly left the territory and set up an ambush near the road in a wooded area.

According to Vyhivsky, community police officers who went to look for community representatives to participate in the search were the first victims of the attack. The suspect shot at a police car, killing one police officer and wounding another.

“After that, he approached the injured man up close and wanted to shoot him. When the police officer said he was a local community officer and the suspect recognized him, he replied, ‘Okay, live,’” the official said.

He said the shooting occurred 500 meters from the suspect’s house. Later, when special forces arrived at the scene, the man opened fire again.

“When our police special forces were already bleeding, but were still alive, he finished them off at close range,” Vyhivskyi added.

He emphasized that combat status cannot be a justification for deliberate killings and brutal violence against law enforcement officers.

We will remind you that in Cherkasy region, four police officers died during the detention of a murder suspect . Another law enforcement officer was injured.
