Shufrych case: People’s Deputy’s detention extended
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv extended the detention period for People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych.
This was reported by “Suspilne”.
In particular, the defendant in the treason case will spend another 60 days in custody – until March 2026, despite the lawyers’ request for a non-isolation type of preventive measure.
At the same time, Shufrych can be released from the pre-trial detention center if bail is paid in the amount of 33 million hryvnias.
During the court hearing, the defense of the People’s Deputy requested a change in the court’s decision. In addition, a medical certificate from a clinic that is ready to take Shufrych for rehabilitation in the postoperative period was attached to the case.
The suspect’s lawyers informed of their intention to file an appeal to change the preventive measure and reduce the amount of bail.
Shufrych also disagreed with the district court’s decision, stating that the detention was illegal.
At the same time, according to information from “Suspilny”, Vyacheslav Cherepanya, a former assistant to the deputy, was left under arrest.
As is known, the Kyiv Court of Appeal allowed People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych to be released from custody on bail of over 33 million hryvnias.
It was previously reported that Nestor Shufrych and his assistant will be tried for financing the Russian National Guard in occupied Crimea.
By the way, on December 27, 2024, the court announced a ruling allowing Shufrych to exercise his parliamentary powers , since he has not yet been found guilty and has not lost his mandate. At the same time, the court refused to allow Shufrych to participate in the Council meeting physically, but ordered him to be granted the right to exercise his parliamentary powers during his stay in the pre-trial detention center.
