Sikorsky named the main condition for Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski warned that Ukraine will not gain membership in the European Union without a decisive and systematic fight against corruption.

He voiced his position during an interview with Polsat News .

Sikorsky said that before the broadcast, he met with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Taras Kachka and again emphasized the risks that corruption poses to Western countries’ support for Ukraine.

“The easiest way to lose the trust of the West is to allow corruption to grow,” said the head of Polish diplomacy.

According to him, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have already carried out a number of dismissals and detentions, and such a reaction demonstrates the state’s proper approach to internal challenges. At the same time, Sikorsky recalled attempts to weaken anti-corruption institutions and emphasized that the Ukrainian authorities’ response to these threats will be crucial for European integration.

“If Ukraine allows corruption to maintain its influence, it will not join the EU. The European Union demands honesty and compliance with procedures,” he stressed.

Sikorski stressed the importance of Ukraine for the security of Poland and Europe, recalling the thousands of Ukrainian soldiers who died holding back the Russian army. He also called for wisdom and solidarity towards Ukrainian citizens in Poland, but noted that after the war, most of them should return home.

As previously reported, the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, stated that certain political forces are trying to use the high-profile investigation into corruption in the energy sector to discredit the Ukrainian authorities.

We will remind you that during the detention in the “Midas” case, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau witnessed an attempt by the defendants to destroy evidence.
