The Balearic Islands government has fined the production company that created the music video for singer Katy Perry’s Lifetimes €6,001. Filming took place without permission on the dunes of the island of Espalmador, which are part of Spain’s protected areas.
The New Musical Express publication writes about this.
Thus, in July 2024, Katy Perry and a film crew worked on a video for the song Lifetimes in the Ses Salines Natural Park in the Balearic Islands. It later became known that the filming took place on the dunes of Espalmador, an area where entry is prohibited in order to preserve the unique nature and wildlife. This caused a wave of criticism from environmentalists.
The Balearic Ministry of Agriculture said that the producers of the video did not have official permission to film. The singer’s representatives explained that they had received verbal consent and submitted documents for permission, but it was still in the process of being processed. At the same time, they emphasized that they complied with all requirements and respected the protected area.
For the violation, Perry’s team was fined €6,001, which has already been paid. There will be no further sanctions, as the team did not cause any harm to the environment.
