A unique documentary story about the power of friendship on the front lines — “Cuba & Alaska” — will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on August 14. This is a touching film about two paramedics who save lives in war, keeping each other by their side — even when everything around them is collapsing.
This is reported by NV .
The film’s world premiere took place at the prestigious Sheffield Documentary Film Festival in the UK, where the film has already received recognition for its sensuality, emotional depth, and truthful depiction of life under fire.
Director Yegor Troyanovsky filmed a documentary about two women with the call signs Cuba and Alaska, who serve as paramedics on the front. They are not just sisters, but best friends who went through the hell of war side by side. Their sisterhood, humor, and mutual support help them endure the most difficult trials.
The film explores how war gradually takes away the soldiers’ peaceful lives, families, plans, and peace, but is unable to take away their humanity, tenderness, and strength of spirit.
“This is not just a story of two heroines. It is the story of everyone who retained the ability to love, believe, and support despite the war,” the creators of the film comment.
After its international premiere in Sheffield, the film “Cuba & Alaska” will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on August 14, 2025. The organizers emphasize that this is not just a film about war — it is a cinematic meditation on intimacy, trust, and female strength, which often remains outside the frame of military plots.
Let us remind you that at the end of 2025, namely on December 12, the long-awaited premiere of the third film in the “Knives and Blades” detective franchise, entitled “Wake Up Dead Man”, will take place on Netflix .
