The European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bratislava has uncovered a large-scale fraud involving state procurement in the field of military aid to Ukraine. Law enforcement officers conducted a special operation, during which eight people were detained, four of whom are current civil servants of the Slovak Ministry of Defense.

This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor’s office.

According to the investigation, the suspects participated in a scheme to falsify ammunition purchases for Ukraine – this involved unjustifiably inflated prices and violations of European Peace Fund (EPF) procedures. Total losses, according to preliminary estimates, amount to 7.4 million euros.

According to the prosecutor’s office, back in February-March 2022, Slovak officials submitted documents to the EPF for compensation for costs of military assistance to Ukraine.

As it turned out during the investigation, some of the submitted data may have been falsified, and the procurement procedure may have been conducted with gross violations.

Investigators suspect that civil servants acted in the interests of two private companies, with which contracts were concluded for the supply of ammunition at inflated prices.

The investigation is ongoing, and all those detained are currently giving testimony.

It is noted that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating corruption in Slovakia’s defense spending system since April 2025. The charges in the case could lead to long prison terms and international sanctions against the companies involved.
