Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the situation surrounding the fundraising for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients by Nazariy Gusakov.
Zelensky wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
“A separate report on the scandalous and extremely unpleasant situation surrounding the collection in favor of Ukrainian citizen Nazariy Gusakov and possible cases of fraud,” the message says.
As the president emphasized, the verification of available information is currently underway. According to preliminary data, at least four financial institutions, as well as many digital services, were used.
In addition, experts are identifying individuals who may have suffered from Gusakov’s possible fraudulent actions.
It is noted that the patient traveled abroad on June 13. His whereabouts and other circumstances are currently being investigated.
“It is very important to restore justice and avoid any discrediting of the meetings and volunteering as such. There must be a legal response to individual cases of fraud,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Previously, social media users accused Lviv resident Nazariy Gusakov of fraud and non-transparent use of funds. As they noted, the patient published the same photos several times during a photo report, and also needed different amounts of medication each month.
As it later turned out, the man was a gambler, so users assumed that Nazariy used the sent funds for betting.
