Snow and ice: worsening weather expected in Ukraine

On Sunday, February 22, Ukraine is expected to see partly cloudy weather, with patchy snow and icy roads. In some regions, overnight temperatures will drop to -18 degrees Celsius.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center .

Where precipitation is forecast

According to forecasters, snow is expected in the western, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia regions. Snow is also possible overnight in the southern Odesa region, with rain during the day.

No significant precipitation is forecast for the rest of the country. However, roads across the country, except in the southeast, will be icy in places.

Temperature picture

Overnight temperatures will drop to -10 to -15 degrees Celsius, with temperatures reaching -18 degrees Celsius in some areas of the northeast. Daytime temperatures will range from -3 to +2 degrees Celsius.

In the western and southern regions, nighttime temperatures are expected to be -1 to -6 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures ranging from +1 to +6 degrees Celsius. In Crimea, nighttime temperatures are expected to be 0 to +5 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures ranging from +3 to +8 degrees Celsius.

Wind and conditions

Winds will be predominantly southwesterly, with northeasterly winds in the south and east, 5-10 m/s. In the Carpathians, gusts of up to 15-20 m/s are possible during the day.

Weather in Kyiv and the region

In Kyiv and the surrounding region, February 22 will be partly cloudy with no significant precipitation. Roads will be icy in places.

Temperatures in the region will be -10 to -15 degrees Celsius at night and -3 to +2 degrees Celsius during the day. In the capital, temperatures are expected to be -10 to -12 degrees Celsius at night and around 0 degrees Celsius during the day.

As a reminder, following widespread flooding caused by heavy rains, freezing temperatures and snowfalls arrived in Ukraine. The severe weather affected various regions, and both utility services and residents themselves had to deal with the aftermath.
