Social assistance, fines for traffic violations and registration of IDPs: what innovations await Ukrainians from July 1

From July 2025, Ukrainians will face a number of changes, in particular, they will concern the rules for vehicle technical inspection, registration of IDPs, and social assistance.

New inspection rules

At the beginning of the second summer month, new rules for vehicle technical inspections will come into effect. From now on, at least two video cameras will be installed at technical inspection points to record the process.

It is planned that the relevant procedure will significantly reduce the number of fake technical inspections.

Accounting for internally displaced persons

Starting July 1, new checks will be introduced for IDPs regarding their stay abroad. If a person stays outside Ukraine for more than 90 calendar days, their internally displaced person status will be revoked.

However, there are exceptions. In particular, days of official leave, children’s health improvement, internships, treatment, rehabilitation will not be taken into account if there is a supporting document. In addition, such reasons as the death of family members of the person and their relatives, caring for a sick child under the age of 18, stay in healthcare institutions, judicial and law enforcement agencies will not be taken into account.

Social benefits for Ukrainians

A pilot project is being launched in Ukraine to provide basic social assistance to low-income families.

Low-income families, single mothers, children raised in large families, children whose parents evade paying alimony, are unable to support the child, or whose place of residence is unknown will be entitled to payments.

New voltage standard

The 220 volts familiar to Ukrainians will be replaced by 230 volts. The corresponding change indicates the synchronization of the energy systems of Ukraine and Europe.

In fact, nothing will change for consumers, because the innovation will not affect tariffs, and most household appliances are imported from European countries and adjusted to the appropriate standard.

Pensioner allowance

Pensioners who will turn 70, 75, and 80 in July will receive an increase in their payments. In particular:

  • 70-year-olds will receive an allowance of up to 300 hryvnias;
  • 75-year-olds will receive an allowance of up to 456 hryvnias;
  • 80-year-olds will receive an allowance of up to 570 hryvnias.

It is worth noting that only those pensioners whose payments do not exceed 10,340 hryvnias 35 kopecks can apply for the supplement.

New fines for traffic violations

Despite information circulating online about the introduction of new fines for traffic violations, the police denied it.

Currently, no changes to the legislation related to administrative liability for violations of traffic rules or public order have been adopted.
