At the request of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, SpaceX has implemented countermeasures in the operation of the Starlink satellite communication system in the country. Some users are already noticing temporary restrictions aimed at increasing security.

This was announced by the Advisor to the Minister of Defense for Technological Areas, Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov.

According to him, SpaceX has already implemented some of the solutions that were agreed upon with the Ukrainian side.

“I cannot publicly announce everything that has been done, is being done, and will be done, but all these actions are aimed at one goal: Protecting the residents of our country (both military and civilian) and our infrastructure from the threat from enemy strike UAVs,” said Sergey Beskrestnov.

He stressed that the restrictions currently in place are temporary and were introduced in an emergency mode. According to the advisor to the Minister of Defense, in the future they are planned to be replaced by a more systematic and thoughtful solution, the development of which requires additional time.

“The current restrictions are temporary (or, to put it another way, emergency) and will be replaced by a global, thoughtful solution, which will take time,” he noted.

Separately, Beskrestnov drew attention to the need to collect information on the use of SpaceX services in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, attempts to collect such data have already been made before, but not all servicemen agreed to transfer information to the command.

“Also, it’s high time to collect all the information about SpaceX service users in the Army across the country. I won’t hide it, there have already been such attempts, but many soldiers who use volunteer Starlinks and personal Starlinks did not want to provide information to the command,” said the advisor to the Minister of Defense on technological areas.

He added that experts are working to find a data collection format that would inspire trust among the military and allow for complete and correct information.

“Experts will definitely come up with a way to collect information on the Army so that the soldiers will trust them with this information,” Beskrestnov emphasized.

Also, according to him, SpaceX is directly involved in the process and is cooperating with specialists from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in implementing relevant solutions.

“I once again apologize to those who were temporarily affected by the measures taken, but for the security of the country now these are very important and necessary actions,” Beskrestnov said.

The day before, SpaceX owner Elon Musk responded to Ukraine’s appeal regarding the use of Starlink terminals on attack drones by Russian troops .

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian side stated that Russian troops had begun systematically installing Starlink terminals on their drones , which allows them to bypass electronic warfare equipment and strike at long distances.

Recall that the Russian occupiers began equipping Shahed kamikaze drones with infrared searchlights to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defense at night.
