SpaceX plans to build its largest-ever rocket launch complex in Louisiana. The project is estimated to cost $100 billion.

Reuters writes about this.

The new spaceport on Pecan Island will be used for launches of the Starship rocket system, as well as for projects to create satellites for processing artificial intelligence data.

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell stated that the new platform plans to launch thousands of Starships annually. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first launch planned for 2029.

According to Elon Musk’s plan, Starship will be a key element in scaling the Starlink satellite network. The company is considering launching up to 1 million satellites into orbit, designed to process artificial intelligence data.

The new complex will cover approximately 50,600 hectares. Its location will expand SpaceX’s launch capabilities beyond its existing sites in South Texas and Florida.

From Pecan Island, rockets will be able to launch south over the Gulf of Mexico, which also creates favorable conditions for launching spacecraft into sun-synchronous orbits.

As a reminder, American entrepreneur Elon Musk stated that SpaceX plans to create a self-developing city on the Moon in less than 10 years . While the company hasn’t abandoned its plans to explore Mars, its primary focus is currently on the Moon.
