Spain will transfer to Ukraine the Lanza LTR-25 tactical early detection radar to strengthen air defense.
This was announced by the Spanish Council of Ministers.
According to the contract signed by the Spanish Ministry of Defense with Indra, the radar complex will be supplied to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The cost of the radar is estimated at 37 million euros.
The Lanza LTR-25 is a mobile three-coordinate early detection radar capable of operating in active electronic warfare environments. The system can detect and track not only aircraft, but also small targets with low reflective surfaces, including drones and cruise missiles.
The radar is easily transported by C-130 aircraft or trucks, allowing for rapid repositioning and reducing the risk of damage. The range of detection of air targets exceeds 450 kilometers.
Combining the radar with a general air defense system allows transmitting the coordinates of air targets directly to air defense units.
The radar operates in the L-band and is equipped with a phased array antenna, which provides high-precision scanning of the airspace.
The radar transfer is part of a broader military assistance package from Spain, which also includes anti-aircraft missiles and armored vehicles. The use of the Lanza LTR-25 enhances the capabilities of the Ukrainian air defense system.
It was previously reported that Belgium plans to transfer F-16 combat aircraft to Ukraine only after it receives and puts its own F-35 fighters into operation.
As a reminder, Poland is negotiating with Ukraine regarding the potential transfer of MiG-29 combat aircraft.
