Special operation against NABU and SAPO: what is the purpose of the Banking

The current government has launched a campaign to discredit NABU and SAPO. Moreover, the investigative actions against these bodies look like an attempt to destroy the reputation of anti-corruption structures created with the support of Western partners.

Political scientist Volodymyr Tsybulko spoke about this on the air of “Pryamoy”.

“This looks like a special operation to eliminate the independence of this anti-corruption cluster. Because there are also investigative actions against the SAPO and against the NABU. The quality of personnel and scandals of the SBI are an order of magnitude higher than those of the NABU. But for some reason, no one is dealing with the SBI, and they have latched on to NABU and the SAPO as structures that were created with the participation of Western partners,” Tsybulko noted.

In his opinion, these investigative actions are part of a media campaign surrounding the approval of the head of the Bureau of Economic Security.

“We are already observing the second week of upheavals surrounding the approval of the head of the BEB. And it seems to me that someone had the idea to somehow link the BEB and NABU… The Bureau of Economic Security is the subject of Ukraine’s obligations to the European Union on the path to European integration. That is, the impression is that in one fell swoop, they want to eliminate all the newly created structures that are pushing us towards the EU or destroy their reputation so much that the processes surrounding these structures are not the subject of accusations against the Ukrainian authorities,” the political scientist explains.

In addition, he believes that such actions against the National Anti-Corruption Bureau look like revenge for cases against high-ranking officials.

“As is known, NABU has conducted several very successful investigations against senior officials. The SAPO has also done its job. Even the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court was considered one of the most qualified courts in terms of reputation until it compromised Chernyshov’s person,” Volodymyr Tsybulko added.

As a reminder, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau stated that employees of the SBU, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted at least 70 searches of NABU employees . Investigative actions are carried out without court orders. In the vast majority of cases, the grounds are the participation of individual persons in road accidents, but some employees are accused of possible ties with the aggressor country. These facts are not interconnected, NABU states.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office also stated that the Security Service of Ukraine , without official warning, came to them to check compliance with the legislation on state secrets and received access to information about all measures and special operations conducted by the NABU and the SAPO.

Meanwhile, the SBU reported that they had exposed the business in Russia of one of the heads of the interregional departments of NABU detectives . According to the case materials, this high-ranking official has contacts with representatives of the aggressor country and is helping his entrepreneur father conduct illegal trade with Russia.
