Several unidentified drones have been spotted over a military base in Wallonia, Belgium. The country’s Defense Ministry believes that this is not a coincidence, but a targeted reconnaissance operation.
According to the Belga news agency, Defense Minister Theo Francken confirmed that drones flew twice over the army brigade headquarters in the town of Marche-en-Faman. According to him, the devices circled for a long time over important areas of the military base.
“Last night, the situation repeated itself – several drones were again recorded. We immediately launched the necessary response protocols, and the police and the ADIV intelligence service began an investigation,” Franken said.
The minister emphasized that the flight of drones over a strategic object cannot be accidental.
“This looks like an organized operation against the heart of our army. Someone was trying to gather information about the critical infrastructure of a military facility,” he noted.
The Belgian government is already preparing a decision on the urgent procurement of systems for detecting and destroying enemy UAVs to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As a reminder, in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), the airport was temporarily closed on October 19 due to the appearance of an unidentified drone in the area of Son Sant Joan airport . The incident caused delays and flight changes.
As reported, on October 6, a drone was spotted over the presidential palace and nearby buildings in Helsinki, where a no-fly zone is in effect.
