Starlink is working again for Ukrainian drones: what is known
Ukraine is restoring Starlink to speeds of up to 160 km/h. This will allow the Ukrainian military to once again use strike drones and interceptor drones, which have been hampered by recent restrictions.
This was announced by former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
According to him, the next step should be to completely lift the speed limits for Starshield.
Recall that on the night of October 14, the Ukrainian military encountered disruptions in the operation of Starlink while traveling at high speed . Serhiy Sternenko was the first to publicly report the problem. According to him, the terminals began to lose communication at speeds of more than 160 km/h, which disrupted several important combat missions.
Subsequently, Beskrestnov reported that SpaceX had introduced speed limits for the operation of Starlink terminals while moving.
At the same time, the 7th Airborne Assault Corps reported that problems arose even at lower speeds. In particular, in the Hulyaipil direction, communication with the drones could disappear for 10–20 seconds while flying at a speed of 110–120 km/h.
Such disruptions made it more difficult for operators to control the drones, and some combat missions had to be canceled.
The military explained that reducing flight speed also creates additional danger, as slower drones become more vulnerable to the enemy.
Separately, Beskrestnov drew attention to the threat to Ukrainian air defense. According to him, Starlink is used in interceptor drones that help destroy Shahed jets. Therefore, communication restrictions affected not only strike operations, but also the ability to protect Ukrainian skies.
