Starlink registration scheme for Russia exposed in Lviv: SBU detains two men

In Lviv, the SBU counterintelligence detained two men who, according to the investigation, illegally registered 14 Starlink satellite terminals for the Russian armed forces. The Russians could use these systems to plan combat operations against the Defense Forces in the Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia directions.
This was reported by the press service of the department.
According to operational data, one of the suspects is a Lviv student who was recruited by Russian special services through Telegram channels, where he was looking for opportunities to make “easy” money. He enlisted an unemployed acquaintance from Lviv to carry out the tasks.
The men were looking for people whose personal data could be used to register Starlink terminals. In this way, they fraudulently recruited 14 people and used their passport data to verify the devices in favor of the Russian Federation.
After activating the terminals, the suspects gave the necessary details to the Russian curator, receiving money for it.
Counterintelligence officers documented the activities of both men and detained them at their places of residence. During the searches, they seized the mobile phones with which they had maintained contact with the Russian representative.
The SBU has now blocked all 14 illegally registered Starlink systems. Information about the possible registration of more than 40 satellite communication terminals by the defendants is also being checked.
The detainees were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – aiding and abetting an aggressor state, committed by a group of persons in prior conspiracy.
The suspects are being held without bail. They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In particular, the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the crime. Comprehensive measures were carried out by counterintelligence officers and investigators of the SBU in the Lviv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
It was previously reported thatthe SBU counterintelligence service detained a man in the Donetsk region who is suspected of collaborating with Russian military intelligence. According to the investigation, he helped the Russians prepare strikes with guided bombs and drones in the Slavyansk direction.
