In Ukraine, the speed limit on Starlink terminals has probably been lifted. This is reported by the commanders of drone units operating on the front lines. The military is still checking the operation of the system.
This was written by The Economist correspondent Oliver Carroll on the social network X.
According to the journalist, he received information about the possible lifting of restrictions directly from Ukrainian UAV unit commanders.
“Frontline drone commanders in Ukraine are telling me that Starlink speed limits have likely been lifted. They are still testing, but it appears to be the case,” Carroll wrote.
At the same time, according to The Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump called Elon Musk and asked him to lift the Starlink speed limit for Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured that no one in the United States ordered the work of Starlink to be slowed down. He also explained why US President Donald Trump refused to impose “hellish sanctions” against Russia , as provided for in the Graham-Blumenthal Act.
Recall that on the night of October 14, the Ukrainian military recorded restrictions on the operation of the Starlink satellite communication . In particular, problems arose with the Starshield system – a project of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, created based on Starlink technologies for the needs of the US government and military. Due to the restrictions, the connection was interrupted at speeds of more than 160 km/h, and sometimes – already at 60-70 km/h. This significantly complicated the effective use of interceptor drones.
On the same day , the Ministry of Defense reported the resumption of Starshield operations and the gradual improvement of communications . At the same time , the administration of US President Donald Trump denied its involvement in the restrictions on Starlink operations in Ukraine . Washington said it would contact SpaceX to find out the reasons for the disruptions.
Later, information emerged that SpaceX founder Elon Musk had proposed restricting Starlink and Starshield for the Ukrainian military , and Trump supported this proposal. At the same time, on Wednesday, October 14, Musk denied his responsibility for restricting access to Starlink and shifted it to the White House.
