Stealing funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: millions of hryvnias were directed to non-existent electronic warfare systems

A scheme to embezzle funds intended for the military has been uncovered in Ukraine. The amount involved is over 5.6 million hryvnias, which, according to investigators, was appropriated by an organized group.

This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to law enforcement, four people were involved in the scheme: an entrepreneur, a director of a utility company, a lawyer, and a company manager. They organized a mechanism to obtain budget funds through fictitious purchases of electronic warfare equipment.

“The group members ensured the sending of fake letters to the military administration, allegedly from military units, with a request to purchase electronic warfare equipment,” the prosecutor’s office reported.

Based on these appeals, money was allocated from the budget to the utility company. After that, contracts were concluded with controlled companies for the supply of equipment.

However, according to the investigation, no electronic warfare equipment was actually purchased or transferred to the military.

“To create the appearance of fulfilling contracts, fake acts and invoices were drawn up,” law enforcement officers noted.

After that, the funds were transferred to the accounts of controlled companies, converted into cash, and distributed among the participants in the scheme.

The total amount of losses is over 5.6 million hryvnias.

During the searches, phones and financial documents were seized from the suspects, which, according to the investigation, confirm the movement of funds.

All four participants were informed of suspicion of embezzlement of property on a particularly large scale during martial law. The issue of a preventive measure is currently being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

As a reminder,law enforcement officers have uncovered large-scale schemes to purchase firewood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine . According to preliminary estimates, the state’s losses exceed 100 million hryvnias.

As reported, in one of the regions of Ukraine , the commander of logistics of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the head of the SBU department were exposed for corruption during the construction of shelters for aircraft.
