The Ukrainian military-industrial complex has developed new modifications of the RK-360MC “Neptun” missile, now capable of striking targets at distances of up to 1,000 kilometers.
Valentyn Badrak, director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies, told Ukrinform.
“We already have a cruise missile developed based on the RK-360MC ‘Neptune.’ Unlike the original version, which was a surface-to-sea missile on the eve of the full-scale war, this is now truly a surface-to-surface weapon,” Badrak noted. “It now has an extended range of up to 1,000 kilometers and has undergone four modifications.”
According to him, the upgraded Neptune missile is capable of striking some of the most powerful military-industrial facilities in the Russian Federation, located between 500 and 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s borders.
“If we think along these lines, then naturally, the range of our ballistic missiles must also increase. What range do we need? What targets must we be able to reach? We know that the 12 most powerful enterprises in Russia connected to strategic and missile weapons are located between 500 and 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s borders. Therefore, we must ensure our security by having the capability to strike these facilities and weaken the enemy’s defense potential,” emphasized the director of the Center for Army Research, Conversion and Disarmament.
Earlier, Valentyn Badrak reported that in mid-May 2025, a ballistic missile for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was successfully tested – it traveled almost 300 kilometers and destroyed a Russian command post. After successful use, the missile is planned to be launched into series production.
The day before, it was reported that in the Kherson region, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed an enemy stronghold using a new type of weapon from a participant in the cluster for the development of military technologies in Ukraine, Brave1.
Recall that in May, the number of hits on Russian command posts increased, which may indicate that Ukraine is testing its own ballistic missiles .
