Strange deadlines: who is really pushing Ukraine towards elections?

The emergence of information about the holding of elections in Ukraine raises many questions. The date of May 15, which falls on a Friday, raises doubts due to its inconsistency with Ukrainian legislation and military realities, but it may be part of a broader foreign policy game on the American side.
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Oleksandr Krayev, an expert at the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”.
In his opinion, these deadlines come precisely from the Trump team, which needs to present a concrete solution to the conflict before serious negotiations with China begin on Taiwan and other global issues.
“Trump literally needs to put this solution in front of China, whatever it may be. And that’s why, it seems to me, all these deadlines, all these dates, they are still Trump’s, either his personally or his team’s,” the studio guest noted.
According to Krayev, the rush with deadlines is explained by preparations for a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, scheduled for April, as Trump seeks to demonstrate a diplomatic victory in the form of a ceasefire or the launch of a settlement process in Ukraine in order to pressure Beijing’s position.
Currently, China benefits from a protracted war due to access to cheap Russian resources and the absence of sanctions, so a quick resolution to the conflict is beneficial to Washington in changing the balance of power, Oleksandr Krayev is convinced.
As a reminder, Western media outlets previously reported on the US demand to hold elections in Ukraine by May 15. Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly plans to announce presidential elections and a referendum on the peace agreement on February 24. However, sources on Bankova denied this information.
At the same time, reports by foreign media about US demands to hold elections by May 15 may turn out to be an information injection and a tool to test the mood of Ukrainians . People’s Deputy from “European Solidarity” Maria Ionova noted on the air of “Pryamoy” that the real situation in the legislative body looks much more restrained than it is presented in the headlines of foreign publications.
