Sweden will transfer modern Tridon Mk2 air defense systems to the Defense Forces, which will strengthen Ukrainian air defense and help shoot down “shaheeds” and other air targets.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

Ukraine will receive the complexes as part of a military aid package announced in February. Sweden has pledged 400 million euros for the Tridon Mk2.

As the defense ministry said, the Tridon Mk2 is a mobile medium-range air defense system, first introduced in 2024.

The systems are capable of operating in all weather conditions, regardless of the time of day. At the same time, a key feature is the “relatively low” cost of a shot.

“The Tridon Mk2 is armed with a 40-mm Bofors 40 Mk4 automatic cannon, which hits targets at a distance of up to 12 km, firing up to 300 rounds per minute. The system allows you to reduce the rate of fire to 200 rounds per minute, which saves ammunition and adapts it to specific fire missions,” the Ministry of Defense explained.

It is noted that the ammunition used by the complex’s cannon explodes directly in front of the target, creating a cloud of debris, which increases the effectiveness of countering drones and cruise missiles.

The system can be mounted on BvS 10 tracked armored all-terrain vehicles or Scania trucks. It is equipped with electric drives, so it is able to interact with various platforms.

“The Swedish Tridon MK 2 is a universal air defense system that combines high efficiency, a wide range of applications and low operating costs. It is capable of simultaneously countering many threats, including strike and reconnaissance drones, aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles,” the ministry concluded.

Recall, on February 19, the Swedish government approved the 21st package of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 12.9 billion kronor , which is about 1.2 billion euros.

Previously, the United Kingdom allocated an additional 100 million pounds to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
