Strict secrecy and trust in people: how Ukraine protects the defense industry from the Russian Federation

Due to the threat of Russian shelling, Ukraine has dispersed its defense industry facilities across different parts of the country.

This was stated by the advisor to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Yuriy Sak, the Independent reports .

It is noted that some of the defense complex’s enterprises have been restored since Soviet times, while others have been built. However, the locations of the facilities are kept strictly secret.

“We are trying to be as secret as possible. All facilities are protected by air defense, and most of them have duplicates — if one facility is destroyed, the others continue production,” the Ukrainian official said.

In particular, one such enterprise is a plant located in the western part of Ukraine, where they produce BTR-4E “Bucephal” armored personnel carriers. Under the supervision of Ministry of Defense inspectors, 300 people work there.

“We cast hulls, turrets, axles and wheels. The armament is installed at another location. So far we are producing four units per month, but we plan to do more,” explained the former military man and current plant manager.

According to him, security is not only based on technology, but also on people, adding that they rely on trust.

“We rely on trust. People from one community will not betray their country,” he stressed.

Recall that Ukraine continues to expand defense production – currently, about 800 enterprises operate in the sector, including 100 state-owned and over 700 private. Over the past three years, the volume of weapons production has increased 35 times.
