The Mersin oil tanker, carrying diesel fuel and linked to Russia, suffered four external damage near Dakar, the Senegalese capital. The incident was the third time in as many days that explosions have damaged vessels linked to Russian shipments.
This is reported by Bloomberg , citing the ship’s manager.
Besiktas Shipping, the Turkish company that operates the Mersin, said seawater had partially flooded the engine room, but the crew was safe and the tanker remained stable. The company was involved in the investigation, working with insurers and coordinating with Senegalese authorities to minimize the impact of the explosions.
The analytical company Kpler specifies that the Mersin was transporting gas oil and has called at Russian ports several times this year. The Senegalese port authority reported that technical services stabilized the vessel after flooding. It is currently being held by tugs and its technical condition is being monitored 24/7. First, specialists plan to seal the holes, and then reload the fuel to ensure the tanker’s stability while pumping out water.
It was previously reported that two tankers from Russia’s shadow fleet, which are under international sanctions, exploded in the Black Sea.
