American strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure changed China’s plans for Taiwan and its view of the United States.

This was reported in the Financial Times.

It is noted that the US strikes on Iran have forced advisors to Chinese President Xi Jinping to reconsider their assessments of how Trump will act on issues affecting China’s national interests.

“They thought Trump would be more ready to make deals, perhaps more pragmatic, and therefore more stable. In fact, everything turns out to be completely different,” said Andrea Ghiselli, a China expert at the University of Exeter.

After the unexpected US strikes on Iran, Beijing will now rethink its prediction of Trump’s behavior, as he is no longer pursuing a more isolationist policy. This makes it impossible to predict whether he will resort to military intervention if China uses force against Taiwan.

According to Financial Times sources, Trump’s order for airstrikes on Iran runs counter to Beijing’s notion that the president’s threats “cannot be taken seriously.”

“Now the idea that he would flinch in a crisis situation has been refuted; this has to some extent strengthened the deterrence factor towards China,” the expert emphasized.

In addition, Beijing’s view that Trump would pursue a restrained foreign policy and not intervene in crises has now been refuted.

It was previously reported that China is strengthening its military presence around Taiwan and increasing its readiness for a surprise strike on the island .
