Strikes on Russian refineries and Trump’s agreement with Putin: what position did Sweden take?

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has supported Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, saying they are necessary to limit Russia’s revenues, which it uses to finance its war.

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing a statement by Kristersson before the start of the meeting of EU leaders.

“Of course, yes. It is necessary to limit the funds that Russia can receive from exports,” the Swedish prime minister replied when asked about supporting strikes on Russian refineries.

Kristersson also criticized the US-Russia diesel fuel deal, noting that even in relatively small amounts, such deals help boost Russian revenues.

“Any step that helps the Russians increase their war funding is a bad sign. The current agreement between the US and Russia is a bad sign,” he said, adding that Sweden shares Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s position.

As a reminder, on October 15, the President of Ukraine announced the lifting of restrictions on strikes on Russian refineries . According to Zelensky, Ukraine refrained from such attacks for three days at the request of Washington, but Russia continued to shell Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The UK, Finland and the EU have also criticised Trump and Putin’s diesel deal , with European officials warning that easing sanctions on Russian energy resources would provide Moscow with additional revenue to wage war.
