In France, 400-500 high schools will suspend classes in whole or in part on Monday due to student protests. Education Minister Edouard Geoffrey said that these institutions do not have adequate security conditions.

This is reported by France 24 .

According to Geoffrey, the number of high schools where classes will be canceled or limited on Monday will be approximately the same as on Friday. The minister also promised a gradual partial resumption of classes.

Students at French high schools are protesting against frequent teacher absences, long school days, overcrowded classrooms, and the dilapidated state of buildings.

According to the minister, 24 schools have been set on fire or vandalized since the protest movement began. The protests began on September 17 in a Paris school and spread to other regions of France last week.

In some places, clashes occurred between teenagers and security forces, who used tear gas and batons.

Geoffrey said the protest movement had been joined by activists, including those on the far left, who he said had resorted to extreme violence. He reported that 78 education workers had been injured and said they were allegedly being deliberately targeted because of their work in the national education system.

Organizers called for continued protests on Tuesday, citing a lack of concrete action from the government.

More than 5,000 people have been arrested since the movement began, 85% of them minors. Critics accuse the police of being overly harsh. On Sunday, a 16-year-old suspect was also arrested in the attack on a 59-year-old teacher in the southern city of La Ciotat.

As you know, large-scale protests by high school students are ongoing in France, which began due to problems in the education system and spread to various cities in the country . Since the beginning of the actions, 1,949 people have been detained, 305 police officers and 65 school employees have been injured, including 40 principals.
