A suicide bomber blew up a train carrying security personnel and their families in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, killing at least 24 people and wounding about 70 others.

According to journalists, the explosion occurred near the city of Quetta. A suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives next to the railway tracks while a train was moving. The Balochistan Liberation Army group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Videos posted online show two train cars overturning and catching fire, with nearby cars also damaged.

Several residential buildings and other structures near the railway line were reportedly severely damaged. A state of emergency was declared in Quetta’s government hospitals following the blast.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act of terrorism.” He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, is Pakistan’s largest province. The Balochistan Liberation Army is fighting for independence for the region and is designated a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

A train collided with a passenger bus at a railway crossing in the Ratchathewi district of Bangkok, Thailand, killing at least eight people and injuring more than 20 others.

Earlier, it was reported that a passenger train derailed in the southern state of Oaxaca, Mexico, killing at least 13 people . Another 98 passengers were injured, some of whom were hospitalized.
