Support for Ukraine and European integration: Irish Prime Minister to hold talks with Zelensky in Kyiv

Irish Prime Minister Michail Martin arrived in Kyiv on an official visit on Thursday, July 23. During the trip, he will hold a series of meetings with the Ukrainian leadership and discuss further support for the state amid a full-scale war.

During his visit, Martin will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and representatives of the Ukrainian government. He will also visit the Verkhovna Rada, where he will hold talks with Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The parties plan to discuss the progress of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the implementation of internal reforms.
The Irish Prime Minister will also meet with the Head of the Ukrainian Government, Serhiy Koretsky, who recently headed the Cabinet of Ministers.
The visit will include visits to areas of Kyiv that have been affected by Russian shelling. Martin will also meet with representatives of international organizations and charitable foundations that provide assistance to Ukrainians with the support of Ireland, and will also meet with the Irish community in Ukraine.
On the eve of the trip, the Irish Prime Minister emphasized that the visit should demonstrate the unwavering support of Ukraine from Ireland and the European Union.
According to Martin, Ukrainians continue to demonstrate resilience and courage in the face of increased Russian attacks, and support for Kyiv remains one of the top priorities of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the EU.
The Prime Minister also noted that the trip will provide an opportunity to directly discuss the current situation in Ukraine and the priority needs of the Ukrainian state with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky.
As previously reported, Ireland has decided to increase military assistance to Ukraine and announced the allocation of an additional 40 million euros, which will be directed to humanitarian needs and long-term support.
