Suspects in the bombing of a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman’s car were detained in Dnipro: details of the incident

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained two suspects in the explosion of a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman’s car in Dnipro on May 7. Law enforcement officers detained one of the suspects while attempting to flee abroad.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU.

According to the investigation, the explosion occurred at around 7:30 a.m. in the Soborniy district of Dnipro. As a result of the terrorist attack, a parked car of a Ukrainian serviceman exploded. The SBU stated that within a few hours after the explosion, law enforcement officers identified the perpetrators and detained them. The investigation established that the suspects acted on behalf of Russia.

According to the case materials, the suspects planted an improvised explosive device under a car and installed a phone camera nearby to record the terrorist attack. The explosive was remotely activated by calling the mobile phone equipped with the device.

Law enforcement officers have established that both suspects are residents of the Samarivskyi district of the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to the SBU, they were looking for “quick money” through Telegram channels and agreed to blow up a military vehicle for a cash reward.

During the searches, mobile phones, SIM cards, and clothing used by the detainees during the preparation and execution of the terrorist attack were seized.

SBU investigators informed the defendants of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a terrorist act. The suspects are currently in custody. The Security Service noted that the detainees face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

We will remind you that in Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained an FSB agent who organized the arson of Defense Forces vehicles and recruited perpetrators of sabotage.
