Svitolina Stuns World No. 2 — Swiatek Showdown Next

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina made it to the semifinals of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian defeated the second-ranked Elena Rybakina in three sets—2:6, 6:4, 6: 4.

The match lasted over two hours. After an unsuccessful first set, Svitolina turned the tide, became more confident on serve, and capitalized on her opponent’s mistakes. In the deciding set, the Ukrainian quickly seized the lead and secured the match.

This is Svitolina’s fourth victory over Rybakina in eight head-to-head meetings.

In the semifinals of the tournament, the Ukrainian tennis player will face the Polish player Iga Swiatek. The match will take place on May 14.

After her successful performance in Rome, Svitolina also guaranteed herself a rise to at least eighth place in the WTA world rankings.
