Svitolina reached the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 9) reached the third round of the prestigious BNP Paribas Open WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA).

In the second round match, the Ukrainian defeated German representative Laura Siegemund (WTA 55) in three sets.

This was the opponents’ second meeting. Svitolina previously defeated Siegemund at the start of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .

This is Svitolina’s 12th appearance at the Indian Wells tournament. Her best result remains the 2019 semifinal, where she lost to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu .

In the 2026 season, Svitolina has already played 19 matches and won 16 victories.

The Ukrainian’s next opponent will be American Ashlyn Krueger (WTA 82), who has already eliminated Magda Linette and Liudmyla Samsonova at the tournament. Exactly one year ago, Svitolina defeated Krueger in the second round of this same tournament.

Besides Svetolina, another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk , also made it to the 1/16 finals of the competition, having beaten Taylor Townsend in her opening match.
