On Thursday, June 18, a second-round match of the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin will take place. Ukraine’s top seed, Elina Svitolina (WTA 8), will face Germany’s Eva Lys (WTA 80).
The match will start at 13:30 Kyiv time.
Elina Svitolina is considered the favorite in this match, and not only because of her higher ranking. The Ukrainian tennis player is enjoying a strong and consistent season, having already won two tournaments – in Auckland and Rome.
Eva Lis was born in Kyiv but moved to Germany as a child. This season, she played only 14 matches due to a knee injury.
These tennis players had previously met at a clay-court tournament in Stuttgart. Elina Svitolina won that match decisively, 6-1, 6-0.
Bookmakers predict Elina will be the stronger this time around. As a reminder, in her previous match, Svitolina defeated Anna Kalinska, a neutral player, after the latter withdrew.
