Sweden and Denmark have agreed to jointly purchase and transfer air defense systems to Ukraine for a total of 2.6 billion Swedish kronor (290 million euros).

This was stated by Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jonsson during a joint press conference with the head of the Danish Defense Ministry, Troels Lund Poulsen, in Gothenburg, Reuters reports.

According to Jonsson, Sweden will provide the bulk of the funding — 2.1 billion kronor, which will be used to purchase Tridon air defense systems developed by BAE Systems Bofors. Denmark, in turn, will allocate about 500 million kronor.

The Swedish Minister of Defense noted that such assistance will allow Ukraine to significantly strengthen airspace protection.

“This gives Ukraine the opportunity to form a full-fledged air defense battalion, if such a decision is made. At the same time, this purchase supports not only Ukrainian defense, but also our production capabilities in Sweden,” Jonsson emphasized.

Sweden and Denmark remain among Ukraine’s most consistent partners, providing military and humanitarian assistance since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

As a reminder, Germany has almost exhausted its capabilities to support Ukraine’s air defense . This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on January 26 in Berlin after a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Robertas Kaunas.

As reported, the head of the communications department of the Air Force Command, Yuriy Igrat, said that Ukraine lacks missiles for air defense systems, so sometimes some complexes are empty.
