Sweden is preparing a large-scale military aid package for Ukraine: what will it include?

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov discussed the formation of one of the largest security assistance packages for Ukraine during a conversation with Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jonsson. The package provides for strengthening air defense, electronic warfare, and the development of defense capabilities.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

During the talks, the parties focused on preparing a large-scale aid package that will include air defense systems and radars manufactured by Saab. Sweden also plans to contribute to the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex through the transfer of additional electronic warfare systems and drones , including Deep Strike.

Mykhailo Fedorov thanked the Swedish side for its consistent support for Ukraine and new investments in the defense sector. Special attention was paid during the conversation to further strengthening cooperation between the countries in the field of security.

The parties discussed strengthening air defense and countering ballistic threats. Ukraine and Sweden are working on additional contributions to the PURL initiative, aimed at providing the Ukrainian military with critical means, in particular to counter ballistic missiles.

A separate area of negotiations was partnership in the field of defense innovations . The Brave1 cluster is discussing the possibility of launching a joint Brave–Sweden program, which, in a co-financing format, will allow for the attraction of grant funds for defense companies and the testing of innovative solutions directly in combat conditions.

In addition, Ukraine and Sweden are working to accelerate the launch of joint production in the defense tech sector. This involves locating the production of Ukrainian security solutions in Sweden.

During the conversation, they also discussed the aviation component of cooperation in detail, in particular the possibility of supplying Gripen aircraft and transferring Meteor missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities in countering aviation threats.

By the way, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga thanked Sweden for its decision to provide Ukraine with direct budget support. This is funding in the amount of $200 million, planned for 2026 .

Earlier, the Swedish government announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth over 1.1 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 100 million euros). The funds are aimed at covering the country’s most urgent needs during the winter period and strengthening its resilience in the future.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the first Swedish Gripen fighters will arrive in Ukraine next year . This decision will significantly strengthen combat aviation and guarantees of the state’s security.
