Swedish prosecutors have seized the dry cargo ship Caffa, which was detained in early March near Trelleborg.
This is reported by the Sweden Herald.
The decision was made following a request for international legal assistance from another state conducting a preliminary investigation into the alleged crime. The name of the country is not being disclosed by the prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutor Hakan Larsson explained that a foreign party had requested that Sweden conduct an investigation into the vessel. The seizure allows the court to consider its subsequent transfer to another state.
The dry cargo ship was detained on March 6 in the Baltic Sea near Trelleborg. According to Swedish police, the ship was flying a false flag and may have violated international shipping rules and ship safety standards.
The Coast Guard also reported that Caffa is on Ukraine’s sanctions list.
In addition, information emerged that the ship could be used to transport grain that was illegally exported from Ukraine.
One of the 11 crew members has already been charged with violating national and international law. Most of the sailors on board are Russian citizens.
The ship’s captain was previously detained, but was later released.
Earlier it was reported that Swedish law enforcement officers detained the bulk carrier Hui Yuan after suspicion of dumping waste into the Baltic Sea . The incident occurred during a patrol of the water area by a coast guard aircraft.
Recall that the “shadow fleet” tanker Boracay, suspected of involvement in the launch of drones over Denmark, continued its movement towards the Suez Canal.
