Switzerland has tightened sanctions against Russia: who is on the new list?
Switzerland has expanded sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine. The new restrictions came into effect on the evening of August 11.
This is stated in a statement by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
According to the government’s decision, 9 individuals and 45 organizations were added to the sanctions list. Switzerland also updated information on 11 individuals and companies that were already under restrictions.
Among the new defendants are representatives of the Russian industrial and defense sectors. In particular, the sanctions included Rostec CEO Oleg Yevtushenko, former head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexey Rakhmanov, and businessman Takhir Garayev.
The new restrictions came into effect on August 11 at 11:00 p.m. local time. In total, dozens of Russian organizations were also added to the sanctions list.
It was previously reported that the European Union is preparing a large-scale package of sanctions against companies that help Russia wage war against Ukraine . The new sanctions list could include more than 1,600 companies.
In addition, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States (Coreper) reached a political agreement on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. Its final approval was planned to be held on July 23 by written procedure.
