Switzerland will provide 600,000 francs, or about $730,000, for the preservation and restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The funds will be transferred through UNESCO after part of the complex was damaged by a Russian strike.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga.

The funding will be used to protect and restore the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as a World Heritage Site. Sibiga stressed that Switzerland’s assistance is of particular importance on the eve of the 975th anniversary of the Lavra. According to him, the support of partners will help preserve the monument for future generations.

On the night of June 15, a Russian strike drone hit the altar of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The impact caused a massive fire.

The fire destroyed about 80% of the roof and wooden structures of the dome. The domes, walls and windows of the cathedral were also damaged. In addition, the attack damaged the Tower of John the Hedgehog, a defensive structure from the 17th-18th centuries.

Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga reacted to the Russian attack on the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv. Ukraine initiates procedures within the framework of UNESCO and calls on the international community for a decisive response.

UNESCO subsequently condemned the Russian attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra , which is one of the main spiritual and cultural shrines of Ukraine and is included in the World Heritage List.
