The Russian army has lost at least 80,000 soldiers killed and wounded since the start of the Ukrainian Defense Forces operation in the Kursk region in August 2024.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky reported this in an interview with The Washington Post.

He clarified that he could not disclose the losses of the Ukrainian army, but assured that they were significantly less than those of the Russians.

“Last summer was very difficult for the Ukrainian army. We were harshly criticized because we defended ourselves and retreated.

The operation of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region has been ongoing since August 2024 and aims to exhaust Russian groups and prevent them from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Kursk direction had become the most effective for providing the “exchange fund”.
