The Armed Forces of Ukraine thwarted the Russian army’s plans to advance to Odessa and seize a number of regions of Ukraine.

This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky.

According to him, Russian troops planned to advance to Odessa to completely cut off Ukraine from the Black Sea. The enemy also intended to seize the remaining territories of the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhia regions, as well as the right-bank Kherson region.

However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine thwarted these plans.

“We prevented the enemy from making critical breakthroughs, thwarted his plans, and repeatedly forced him to postpone the dates of planned operations,” Syrsky noted.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that the Ukrainian military worked at the limit of its capabilities and inflicted maximum losses on the Russian army.

According to him, during the year, the number of enemy forces was reduced by more than 418 thousand people killed and wounded.

“This year has proven that we are capable of systematically exhausting the enemy and significantly reducing its potential. The defense forces prevented the aggressor from implementing his plans, preserved strategic positions and prepared the basis for further actions,” he added.

As previously reported, units of the Charter brigade established control over the Kupyansk city council building. The national flag of Ukraine was raised above the city hall in the city center.

As a reminder, on the night of January 13, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a drone production facility in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation, as well as a number of military targets in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
