Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi approved a plan for the development of the sergeant corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until the end of 2027. The initiative provides for expanding the powers of sergeants, improving career growth, developing the training system, and raising social standards of military service.

Syrsky reported this on his Telegram channel.

According to the Commander-in-Chief, the development of the sergeant corps is one of the key areas of the comprehensive transformation of the military service system in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“We are continuing the comprehensive transformation of the military service system in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the first stage of which has already begun. One of the key areas of this work is the further development of the sergeant corps,” Syrsky noted.

He also approved the Action Plan for the restoration, functioning and further development of the sergeant corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The implementation of the initiative will continue until the end of 2027.

According to Syrsky, the further development of the sergeant corps will be carried out on the basis of modern principles of military management, in particular the Mission Command philosophy, which provides for the decentralization of decision-making, the development of disciplined initiative, and the delegation of authority in accordance with the level of responsibility.

The plan envisages not only expanding the institute of instructors in training centers and introducing drill sergeant positions in basic combined arms training battalions, but also increasing the number of sergeant positions in headquarters and military command bodies at all levels. This should allow for more effective use of sergeants’ combat experience and their wider involvement in the training and decision-making process.

Special attention will be paid to combat units.

“War experience has convincingly proven that the modern battlefield requires more independence, responsibility, and leadership from junior commanders. They must have the necessary authority to effectively manage subordinates, and the platoon sergeant major must be ready to replace the commander if necessary without losing the controllability and combat capability of the unit,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.

A separate direction has been identified: expanding the rights and powers of the non-commissioned officers, improving the distribution of functions between sergeants and officers, as well as a clear demarcation of responsibilities between commanders and chief sergeants.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine also plan to modernize the system of professional training for sergeants, bringing training as close as possible to the conditions of modern warfare through the wider implementation of practical training, the latest technologies, and combat experience gained during the fight against Russian aggression.

Special attention will be paid to improving the procedure for serving in sergeant positions and creating effective career management mechanisms.

In addition, Syrsky stressed the need to raise the social standards of military service for non-commissioned officers. According to him, currently, in certain categories of non-commissioned officers, there are imbalances in the system of monetary support and motivation that need to be eliminated.

The issue of adequate financial support for instructors and staff sergeants also remains important.

Individual measures of the plan are aimed at strengthening the professional unity of the non-commissioned officers’ corps, developing its organizational culture, and preserving military traditions.

“The sergeant corps was and remains one of the foundations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That is why we will continue to consistently create conditions for the professional growth of sergeants, increasing their authority and strengthening their role at all levels of military command,” Syrsky concluded.

Earlier, “Pryamiy” reported that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky held a meeting on the state and readiness of the reserves of the Ukrainian army. During the meeting, they discussed strengthening the defense of the state border, the restoration of units after completing combat missions, as well as the development of unmanned systems.

In addition, Ukraine continues to increase its advantage over Russia in the use of drones. According to Syrsky, the Ukrainian military uses FPV drones about one and a half times more often than the Russian occupiers, and this figure continues to grow.
