Taiwan is preparing to counter China with drones, using Ukraine’s experience as a model.

Taiwan is actively developing the production and deployment of various types of drones in preparation for a potential threat to China. The country’s plans are largely based on Ukraine’s experience in using drones on the battlefield.

One of the concepts Taiwan plans to adopt is the US military’s “Hellscape” strategy. It calls for the large-scale use of drones, artillery, and missiles to destroy Chinese forces during their offensive.

Taiwan’s military is closely studying the Ukrainian experience, particularly the effectiveness of relatively inexpensive drones against significantly more expensive targets. The country is seeking to adapt this model and scale up the use of unmanned systems in its armed forces.

Taiwanese authorities plan to increase production to approximately 100,000 drones per month, half of which are intended for export. The country also intends to purchase approximately 210,000 maritime and aerial drones.

Analysts estimate that, if the situation escalates, drones could also be used to attack Chinese warships, particularly as they leave port. Ukraine is using a similar tactic against the Russian fleet.

“Remember that China is also closely monitoring what is happening in Ukraine,” one expert noted.

At the same time, Taiwan faces challenges in quickly attracting the necessary resources and implementing new approaches in its military. Unlike Ukraine, the country is not yet in a state of full-scale war, which complicates resource mobilization and the acceleration of military innovation.

Japan is also building its largest destroyer to strengthen its defense against China.
