The Liberian-flagged tanker Gas Lisbon, which was carrying propane to the Ukrainian port of Reni, was damaged off the coast of Romania. After the incident, a fire broke out on board, and the entire crew was evacuated.

This was announced by Romanian President Nikosor Dan.

According to him, after receiving the emergency signal, two ships of the Romanian Agency for the Safety of Life at Sea quickly arrived at the vessel. They evacuated the entire crew, including three injured sailors, who were taken to shore.

A tugboat was also sent to the scene of the incident, monitoring the position of the damaged tanker to prevent it from drifting and ensure shipping safety.

“State authorities are on high alert and will clarify the circumstances, causes, and those responsible for this serious incident, which is most likely part of the illegal war of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” said Nikushor Dan.

According to Digi24, an explosion occurred on board a vessel loaded with propane. The tanker is located approximately 26 kilometers off the coast of the city of Sfintu Gheorghe and continues to burn.

According to the publication’s sources, the ship was likely attacked by a naval drone. However, the origin of the drone has not yet been officially established.

In particular, a warning was issued for all vessels in the area of the incident, urging them to avoid the danger zone until the rescue operation is completed.

It was previously reported that a search and rescue operation was completed in the Black Sea after Russia’s missile strike on a civilian merchant vessel near Odessa . Ten people died then, including a pilot from the Delta Pilot branch of the USPA SE.
