After India stopped purchasing Russian oil, at least four Russian tankers remained parked near the country’s coast.

This was reported in Bloomberg.

The tankers Achilles and Elyte are currently anchored near the city of Jamnagar.

At the end of June, the ships picked up cargo from Primorsk and Ust-Luga, Russia, where Russian Urals oil is usually loaded.

It is noted that these tankers are under European sanctions and have a carrying capacity of about 700,000 barrels each. They were supposed to be unloaded on August 2 and 3.

Two other tankers, Destan and Horae, are also idled off the Indian coast with Urals oil.

The tankers were loaded by July 1. The Destan, which is under EU and British sanctions, is expected to reach the port of Sikka in the coming days.

The Horae, whose destination remains unknown, is not subject to EU, British or US sanctions, so the tanker’s destinations could change.

Earlier it became known that Indian oil refining companies temporarily stopped purchasing Russian oil after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on countries that continue to buy energy resources from Moscow.

It is worth adding that US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs for India : from August 1, the country will have to pay 25%. He explained that India buys most of its military equipment from Russia and, together with China, is one of the largest consumers of Russian energy.

As reported, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will be able to meet its oil needs from alternative sources if Russian supplies are cut off by US sanctions.
