Nationwide protests took place in France today, October 24, with clashes between demonstrators and police in several cities. Law enforcement used tear gas and water cannons, while the action in Paris was peaceful.

Meanwhile, the situation in Lyon, Nice, Lille, Toulouse and Nantes has escalated. Riot police have used tear gas against demonstrators.

The escalation occurred a few hours after Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said the authorities would not tolerate violence and public order violations.

In Lille, protesters began throwing objects at police. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons. Water cannons were also used in Nantes, where journalists reported that looters had looted a jewelry store.

Amid the protests, sparked by dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living and the funding of public services, the “yellow vest” movement called for new demonstrations on October 31.

Earlier, on the evening of October 23, in Prague, several dozen protesters tried to force their way into the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament . The police stopped the attempt to break in, and there were no arrests after the incident.
